Exam Prayer and Pep Talk

A Campus Minister on April 29, 2010

I have not done my due diligence to confirm it, but I believe this is prayer by Thomas Aquinas, or at least, is in his spirit.

Exam Prayer for Students

Creator of all things,
true source of light and wisdom,
origin of all being,
graciously let a ray of your light penetrate
the darkness of my understanding.

Take from me the double darkness
in which I have been born,
an obscurity of sin and ignorance.

Give me a keen understanding,
a retentive memory, and
the ability to grasp things
correctly and fundamentally.

Grant me the talent
of being exact in my explanations
and the ability to express myself
with thoroughness and charm.

Point out the beginning,
direct the progress,
and help in the completion.

I ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

A Pep Talk for Students during End-of-semester Exams

First of all, you can do this.

You have already come so far. You've done everything else this class required of you. You have the ability to concentrate and to study. You will do well.

Pray. Relax. Regroup. Study.

Sometime soon, you will look back on this exam and it will be behind you. You will have finished it. That's point B. You simply need to make it from point A (here, today) to that point B. You will make it. Have confidence in yourself and in your abilities. Allow your past accomplishments to speak for themselves. You will do well.

Be at peace.
