Give Your Heart Away 201012-14 February, 2010Catholic Conference Center, Hickory NC Goals of the weekend: To provide an opportunity for Catholic college students in the Diocese of Charlotte to gather together in service, prayer, reflection, and fellowship in order to…realize their potential for doing good…discover their gifts…exercise an alternative to apathy…practice compassion…learn about Catholic Social Teaching…put service into a Catholic context…become signs of hope in the world. Friday: Set-UpSet-up 5:00-7:00 Karen, Mary, Karen’s students· Registration table· Set up our room: large group meeting space, ice breakers, prayer area· Set up name tag station and snack area Friday Evening: Preparation—Opening Our HeartsFocus: To create an intentional community for the weekend and to prepare ourselves for the weekend ahead by reflecting on the ways that we can serve. Registration 7:00-7:45 Peg + student helpers· Student helpers can show students to their rooms· Make name tags Gloria + students· Mingle and snacks Jude / Julie Welcome /Housekeeping 8:00 Mary + Karen· Firm starting time!; if students are late, their CMs will wait for them, integrate them into flowIce-Breakers 8:15 Erin + studentsOpening Prayer 8:30 _____ Keynote: The Ways in which we serve 9:00-9:30 _____ Student Response _____· Students who engage in regular service/ministry activities at college/after share their experience· CMs need to identify; they can be provided with outline; 2-3 minutes Selecting Ministry Sites 9:30-10:00 Karen· Presentation on sites · Break: Review sites and choose / need posters of sites; a driver must be #1 sign-up Work group meetings 10:00-10:15 Karen and Julie circulate · Make sure have directions and driver; see if anyone in group has a (non-cell) camera· Arrange for departure time· Make sure you have a CM cell # and leave a # (put on sign-up sheet)· Do a getting-to-know you activity Night Prayer 10:15-10:30 Gloria Hang-out 10:30· Snacks, music, games, make valentine cards, adoration Saturday Morning: Service—Opening Our HandsFocus: To engage in service to our brothers and sisters in need. Breakfast 8:00-8:30Prayer 8:30 Peg Leave for ministry sites 8:30-9:00· Pick up lunch cards on way out Ministry 9:00-2:00 CMs work / visit sites· 1 or 2 CMs could drive around and visit each site, take pictures· CM at CCC to host supplementary ministry activity Peg + Alberta Return and refresh 2:00-3:00 CM to provide hospitality?· Shower, snacks, hanging out Saturday Afternoon: Reflection—Opening Our MindsFocus: To reflect on today’s service and service in general, and to put it into the larger context of Catholic Social Teaching in order to understand the connections between charity and justice. Individual reflection time 3:00-3:30 Peg· Transitioning to reflection, and connecting what we did with bigger picture · 2 options: journaling (with questions?) and art project (what?)· Play meditative music to help maintain atmosphere Large group gathering / Input piece 3:30-4:00 _____· Connects service into larger Catholic picture· At end, number off and send off to small groups Small groups 4:00-4:30 CMs· Use small group reflection sheet to process the experience· Encourage all students to share, to make connections Large group sharing 4:30-4:45 Karen· Have each group give a report about their group’s discussion (or one thing discussed)· Get volunteers for mass set-up; announce sign-up for liturgical ministries Photo 4:45 [?] Set-up dining room 5:00-5:45 Mary, Alberta and Gloria Saturday Evening: Celebration—Opening Our SpiritsFocus: To be a Eucharistic people and give thanks and celebrate together. Michael Hang out 9:00· Discuss spring break trip Julie Sunday: Sending—Opening Our LivesFocus: To put this weekend into the larger context of our whole lives and our baptismal call to ministry, by exploring ways we can continue to serve and being re-commissioned and sent forth.
